SF Volleyball: Saints Topple Pensacola in Four Sets
October 7, 2019
October 7, 2019 – Santa Fe College Saints volleyball knocked off the Pensacola State College Pirates in four sets (25-19, 25-15, 23-25, 25-18) Saturday afternoon to improve to 3-1 in the Panhandle Conference standings.
Key to the win was multiple offensive strikes from the Saints' front line, led by sophomore outside hitter Kelley Catlett's 14 kills and .406 hitting percentage. "After we lost the third set I asked my assistant coaches who was leading us in kills and they didn't hesitate and said Kelley," said Saints head coach Nick Cheronis. "That made the decision for the game four line-up pretty easy."
Emily Register added 11 kills and Mikayla Collins had 10 to help lead the Saints to the win.
In a quirk in the conference schedule, the Saints (6-11, 3-1 PC) will take on Pensacola in their next match – Thursday, Oct. 10, at Pensacola, then play Florida State College at Jacksonville Friday, Oct. 11 to close out the conference schedule.
Cheronis added, "We have put ourselves in a great position to win the conference, but both Pensacola and FSCJ know that as well. We will be in for dog fight when we go there."
