Andrews Center Hosts College for Kids Programs

June 28, 2019

June 29, 2019 – Santa Fe College's Andrews Center hosted nearly 100 Bradford County students this month as a part of SF's College for Kids program. The Andrews Center initially started their College for Kids summer programs in 2003, and have since expanded it to include a session for younger children.

The first week of the program, which was held June 10 – 14, was for rising second to fifth graders. The Junior College for Kids was held in the morning, with Junior Exploring Science during the afternoon. Students had the opportunity in art, history, sports classes, movie-making, culinary and science classes during college for kids. The Exploring Science sessions had students participating in 20 science experiments during the course of the week. The following week was for students entering the sixth through 10 grades with similar classes geared toward the students' interests. The Andrews Center's summer programs continued this week with Lego Robotics and 2D and 3D art classes. In mid-July, there will be a LEGO Robotics competition for students 8 -14 years of age.

During all three of the weekly sessions, students who were rising 10 through 12 graders had the opportunity to participate in the Counselor in Training (CIT) program. The work-oriented program gave students valuable experience and the volunteer training needed to improve college scholarship opportunities.

Andrews Center's Director, Cheryl Canova, was pleased with the number of attendees, and was proud of the fact that many former CFK students later enrolled at the Andrews Center and earned their college degrees.
