March 28, 2019 - Dance music from around the world is the inspiration for a free piano recital by students of Santa Fe College Music professor Mitch McKay at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2019, in the SF Fine Arts Hall.
"Students will be playing classical pieces based on or inspired by dances from Jamaica, Argentina, Peru, South Africa and Europe," McKay explained.
Selections will include melodies by some of history's most beloved composers, including Frederic Chopin from Poland, Johann Sebastian Bach from Germany and Scott Joplin from the United States, as well as music by contemporary composers.
Piano students of all ages and all experience levels from beginners to advanced will perform.
McKay has a doctorate degree in piano performance from Michigan State University. His Santa Fe College students have been recognized in various competitions throughout the Southeast, including the Foundation for the Promotion of Music's Sonata Festival, the Florida Federation of Music Clubs Festival and the Alcorn State University Piano Competition in Mississippi.
