Three Bands With Singers Featured in "Jazz Up Spring" Concert April 11, 2019

March 22, 2019 - The Santa Fe College Big Band, Jazz Combo, Rhythm and Blues Band and singers from the vocal music classes will be featured in the annual "Jazz Up Spring" concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 11, 2019, in the SF Fine Arts Hall.
Tickets are $15 for adults; $9 for seniors, children and University of Florida students; and free for SF students, faculty and staff with college identification cards. For ticket information, call the Box Office at 352-395-4181 or visit the Fine Arts ticket website at sfcollege.edu/finearts.
There's something for all jazz lovers on the program, from old standards such as Nelson Riddle's arrangement of "I Only Have Eyes for You" through Stevie Wonder's "Superstition" to Kenny Dorham's blend of hard bop and bossa nova in "Blue Bossa."
Music professor Dr. Steve Bingham, Ph.D., will conduct the Big Band. Assistant professor of Music and Instrumental Band Dr. David Smith will conduct the Jazz Combo and Rhythm and Blues Band. Singers Candace Rhodes, Avery Wallace, Devon Gainey and Brandee Week are from Music professor Lynn Sandefur's classes.
Tunes to be performed by the Big Band will include "Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most" with a trombone solo by Michael Murphy and "Basie-Straight Ahead" by Sammy Nestico (professional version).
The Rhythm and Blues Band will perform such favorites as "Brick House" by The Commodores, "Knock on Wood" by Eddie Floyd and Steve Cropper, and "I Got You (I Feel Good)" by James Brown.
Selections by the Jazz Combo will include "All the Things You Are," with music by Jerome Kern and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein, and "Bluesette" by Toots Thielemans.
