SF Basketball: Saints Women's Team on Five-Game Winning Streak
February 4, 2019
February 4, 2019 – The Santa Fe Saints women's basketball team remained at the top of the Mid-Florida Conference Standings with a 72-52 home win over College of Central Florida (CCF) Patriots Saturday afternoon.
Steady, balanced scoring and rebounding propelled the team, improving to 15-7 on the season and 5-1 in conference play. Chardell Jones earned a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Teammates Julie Fournier chipped in 12 points while Danasia Bogle added 10 points and nine rebounds.
SF will try to extend the streak to six games when they play at home against Albany Technical College Monday at 6 p.m.
The men's team came up short in a nail-biting double overtime effort against CCF Saturday.
Both teams played aggressively, with seven lead changes throughout the matchup and the teams going shot-for-shot, especially in the second half and into both overtime periods.
"It was a hard-fought game by both teams and I was really proud of the effort," said Saints head coach Chris Mowry. "It's a tough game to come up on the short end of it,"
Leading the charge for the Saints was Brady Fernandez with 27 points and eight rebounds. Admir Besovic scored 23 points and both John Mason and Miles Coleman contributing 13 points apiece.
The Saints (14-11, 2-5 MFC) look to bounce back to Wednesday, when they play on the road against Eastern Florida State College. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
