SF Men's Basketball: Saints Get Road Victory Over Florida Gateway

January 29, 2019

January 29, 2019 – Five Saints scored in double figures and Ivan Smith was a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line in the second half as the Santa Fe Saints men's basketball team defeated Florida Gateway College 91-81 in a nonconference game Monday in Lake City.

"Gateway played with a lot of energy," said SF head coach Chris Mowry. "We didn't pick up the pace until the second half, but we had the answers when we needed them."

The Saints (14-10, 2-4 MFC) led 43-42 at the half and quickly expanded the lead to double figures early in the second half. FGC (9-15) would cut the deficit to single digits in the closing minutes, but Smith, Brady Fernandes and Ryan Leonard each scored 10 points after the break to keep the win in hand.

Fernandes led the Saints with 20 points while Admir Besovic hit for 17, Smith 15, Leonard 14 and John Mason 10.

The Saints will get back to Mid-Florida Conference play when they host the College of Central Florida at 4 p.m. Saturday.
