SF Women's Basketball: Saints Beat Daytona on the Road to Capture First Place
January 27, 2019
January 27, 2019 – The Santa Fe Saints women's basketball team used a suffocating defense to hold Daytona State in check, on the way to a 63-50 Mid-Florida Conference (MFC) win on the road Saturday afternoon.
"I am very proud of our defensive effort today," said SF head coach Chanda Stebbins. "I was critical of the team for not showing solid body language after getting stops against FSCJ and I feel like we grew in that area today."
The Saints held a slim 32-30 lead at halftime, but limited the Falcons to just eight third-quarter points on three of 14 from the field to take a double-digit lead into the final stanza.
Janasia Law led the Saints in scoring with 15 points while Stephanie Jackson tallied 12. Chardell Jones played strong in the paint with nine points and 14 rebounds.
SF (14-7, 4-1 MFC) moves into sole possession of first place in the MFC and has won four straight, three of which are conference wins.
The next game for the Saints is Saturday, Feb. 2, when the College of Central Florida comes to Gainesville for the 2 p.m. tip-off.
