Keyless Entry Cards for SF Academic Units in Buildings A, B and K

January 10, 2019

January 10, 2019 - Santa Fe College is implementing a keyless entry card system to increase safety across the Northwest Campus. This keyless entry card project will be phased in over time. Each area will receive advance notification of installation dates.

What are the advantages of SF updating their key system?

  • The new system uses current technology to make access control more efficient – a higher education best practice.
  • Unit access doors can be pre-programmed to be locked or unlocked per the unit's schedule.
  • Increased security – the ability to lock down keyless entry areas automatically and remotely in the event of an active threat.
  • Cardholders will be able to access their area without time delay (waiting for police to physically unlock doors).
  • Cards can be activated and deactivated automatically allowing for retention of the card from semester to semester, without having to reissue a key. Especially valuable for adjunct faculty.
  • Merges the SF ID card and keyless entry card into one.
  • It's cost effective and easier to track and replace.
  • Eventually will eliminate the need to carry multiple keys to multiple locations on campus.

When will the new process become effective?

The first upgrades impacted the academic units in Buildings A, B and K. Installation for academic units in these buildings was completed shortly before the college closed for winter break.

It is important to note that the keyless entry card will be good for entry into your academic units only in Building A, B or K. Your current key will still be required for your office and/or building access.

If you currently have a key for one of the academic units in Buildings A, B and K, here's what you need to know:

  1. Have a new photo taken in Student Life, located on the first floor of building S, as soon as possible.
  2. You will be notified when your new SF ID card is ready for pick up.
  3. Your keyless entry card will be available in the SF Police Department, Building T.

If you do not currently have a key for one of the academic units in Buildings A, B and K, and need one, here's what you need to know:

  1. Obtain approval from your supervisor for the area in which you need access; complete the key request form.
  2. Have your photo taken by reporting to the Student Life front desk, located on the first floor in building S.
  3. You will be notified when your new SF ID card is ready for pick up.
  4. Your keyless entry card will be available in the SFPD, Building T.

If your keyless entry card does not work, please contact the SFPD for entry. Then report the issue to IT through the help desk work order system.
