Saints of Santa Fe College – Natasha Prior

I grew up in an orphanage in Ukraine. I've seen a lot of different stories and different lives that kids have had. Most of the time, kids were taken away from their parents due to neglect or abuse. I want to pursue criminal justice to prevent these experiences for kids by helping to change the adults. I was going to graduate in Ukraine after 9th grade and go into the medical field. But I had the opportunity to come here to America, to explore the culture, to stay here for five weeks in the summer. That's when I met my family. I loved them, and they loved me, even though I didn't speak English back then. It just felt right, as if I was meant to be here. We are not as different as people think. We all need to eat, we need to make money, we have the same worries. We just have to listen to others. Be respectful and kind. It will help to put you in their shoes.
