SF Basketball: Saints Men and Women Win Wednesday Contests

November 15, 2018

November 15, 2018 – Both the men's and women's basketball teams picked up victories in Wednesday's action. The Santa Fe College men's team used a huge second half comeback to defeat the Hillsborough CC Hawks 71-68 in Tampa to improve their record to 3-2 on the season.

The Saints trailed by 16 points at the half (48-32) but turned up the defense and Miles Coleman took control of the offense hitting seven 3-pointers after the break to earn the Saints the win.

"This was a great win," said Head Coach Chris Mowry. "I am proud of the way we fought to get back into the game and closed it out in the end."

Coleman, a 6-foot-5 freshman out of Dwyer High School in West Palm Beach, scored 23 of his game-high 25 points in the second half.

The Saints will host ASA Saturday, Nov. 17, at the SF Gymnasium with the tip-off scheduled for 2 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Saints women's team picked up a win in front of the home crowd, topping the St. Petersburg Titans 96-72. After a slow start, SF went on a 12-2 run to open the second quarter and begin their turn-around. The win snaps a three-game losing streak, and the Saints are now 2-3 on the season.

Chardell Jones led four Saints in double figures with 23 points while Janasia Law scored 21, Danasia Bogle 15 and Keaubree Edwards 10.

The Saints will stay at home Friday, Nov. 16, when they host Eastern Florida State College for a game scheduled to tip off at 6 p.m.
