SF Teaching Zoo Welcomes Millionth Visitor
June 4, 2018
June 4, 2018 – The Santa Fe College Teaching Zoo reached a major milestone Saturday, June 2, by welcoming its millionth visitor! Each year, the SF Teaching Zoo welcomes tens of thousands of visitors from the region and around the world. As the only teaching zoo on a college campus accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, guests travel to learn about the unique animal residents and to meet the students training to be zookeepers.
Scott Shanbom, a Zoology major at the University of Florida and first-time visitor, arrived Saturday morning on what seemed to be an ordinary visit to the SF Teaching Zoo. Much to his surprise, zookeepers and staff cheered as he was awarded a gift basket, a VIP behind-the-scenes tour and a one-year family membership.
Now the SF Teaching Zoo is hoping guests will work toward the two-millionth person walking through the gates by visiting the zoo on SF's Northwest Campus, 3000 NW 83 Street, Gainesville, Florida. Normal business hours are 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. seven days a week. SF Teaching Zoo staff invite you to come trek through the beautiful shaded trails to see 70 species of animals.
