SF Students Excel at Model US Senate
March 28, 2018
Seven Santa Fe College students performed remarkably at the 47 Annual Model US Senate at Stetson University in Deland, March 22-24, winning two of the six "Best Senator" awards and an award for a member of the "Best Committee." The Model Senate provides a hands-on and fun learning experience, in which students, portraying actual US senators, participate in committee meetings, floor sessions, and caucus meetings and get to introduce bills and usher them through the process, debate a wide variety of issues, deliver speeches, and wheel and deal like real senators.
The SF group's performance was particularly remarkable as most of the other students who attend come from four-year colleges and some of them have had the opportunity to attend multiple times, while the SF group consisted of first-time participants portraying relatively low-seniority senators who have a harder time getting attention. All seven students did a superb job.
