Theatre Santa Fe Presents "War of the Worlds" Oct. 19-21, 2017

October 18, 2017

War of the Worlds at the SF Fine Arts Hall October 19-21, 2017

October 18, 2017 - The student cast of Theatre Santa Fe will perform "War of the Worlds" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday -Saturday, October 19-21, 2017, in the Santa Fe College Fine Arts Hall.

Based on the novel of the same name by British writer H. G. Wells, "War of the Worlds" created a sensation the day before Halloween in 1938, when American actor Orson Welles directed and narrated a radio version of the story that simulated a newscast. After the broadcast, some newspapers and public figures protested the radio play as deceptive and called for greater regulation from the Federal Communications Commission but the episode secured Orson Welles' reputation as a dramatist.

"War of the Worlds" is sponsored in part by Santa Fe College, SF Student Life, and the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs and the Florida Council on Arts and Culture and Visit Gainesville, a Tourist Development Tax Grant from the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners in conjunction with the Alachua County Tourist Development Council.

Tickets are $15 main floor and $12 balcony for adults; $9 for seniors, children and University of Florida students; and free for Santa Fe (SF) College faculty, staff and students with college identification cards.
