SF Saints Volleyball win first two games of conference schedule

September 25, 2017 – The Santa Fe College Volleyball team defeated Gulf Coast State College 3-1 Friday to remain perfect in conference play this season.

SF won the first set 25-16 without much of a challenge from the Commodores, but GC bounced back in the second to even things up with a 25-19 win.

In the third set, Coach Cheronis called two early time outs within the first six points of the set and it paid off as SF regained their footing midway through and pulled away for the 25-20 win.

In the fourth set Cheronis again used early timeouts to calm his team down and make adjustments, seeing the dividends once again. An early run after the timeout staked the Saints (4-9, 2-0 PC) to a 10-point lead, one they would not relinquish in route to the 25-18 win.

Sterling Williamson was a massive part of the Saints success, racking up 18 kills. Aspen Dangren had 12 kills and Tina Mayberry pitched in seven. As a team SF had 89 digs.

"We needed every one of those 89 digs tonight," said Cheronis. "Gulf Coast gave us everything we could handle. They come at you from so many different angles and hit the ball to every area of the floor."

The Saints will have a few days off from games before returning to the floor in Palatka against Panhandle Conference foe St. John's River State College Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m.
