Saints Split Pair of Matches Over the Weekend
September 5, 2017
September 5, 2017 - The Santa Fe College Saints (2-6) played two tough teams Saturday afternoon in Cocoa, Florida, taking the first one over Indian River before falling to the hosts, Eastern Florida State College.
Caylee Cox had her best game of the year against the Pioneers of Indian River (25-23, 25-21, 25-14), piling up 31 assists and 12 digs for the double-double. Sterling Williamson and Leah Wilcox had nine kills each and SF controlled the net with 12 blocks.
"IRSC runs a very complex offense, so for us to have 12 blocks is a great sign that we played disciplined," said SF Coach Nick Cheronis.
The second match was against Eastern Florida State College. The Titans pulled out a four-set victory, but Coach Cheronis liked what he saw from the Saints, particularly sophomore Meagan Irish.
"Meagan played her best match of her career here today," said Cheronis. "Give a lot of credit to our passers and setters, they did a great job getting her the ball. We keep learning more about who we are every day and that's a great sign."
Irish finished the match with 13 kills and hit .406. Aspen Dangren had 11 kills and Williamson nine.
Next up for the Saints is a home game against Pasco Hernando on Wednesday, Sept. 6 at 6 p.m.
