Campus Conversations: "Teaching College" discussion Sept. 11 – 14, 2017

August 18, 2017

August 18, 2017 - Campus Conversations at Santa Fe College is hosting discussion sessions of Norman Eng's "Teaching College" Monday, Sept. 11, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 12, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 13, from 3:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. and Thursday, Sept. 14, from 3:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. Register at https://apps.sfcollege.edu/profdev for a copy of the book.

In Teaching College, Eng blends good pedagogy and marketing insights into a handbook that will help anyone who teaches college teach more effectively. Join colleagues to reflect on Eng's work and consider how we might respond as educators both in and out of the classroom.

SF faculty member Thomas Maple participated in the discussion recently. "As I flipped through to the last part of the book itself, my eyes settled on some passages which were in quotes and seemed like a conversation. This turned out to be immediately useful for me, as it was a series of simple suggestions for how to steer classroom discussions away from tangents and keep students on topic during the open discourse that I use almost every day. The book is now littered with highlighted text and dog-eared pages, and I am extremely grateful to Rhonda and Steve for making this moment of pure classroom magic possible."

Participants need time to read the book in preparation for the session. Please contact steve.grosteffon@sfcollege.edu for more information.
