August 7, 2017
August 7, 2017 - For the first time in their careers, two former Santa Fe College standouts, and current Major Baseball Players, Mallex Smith and Keon Broxton were on the same field when the Tampa Bay Rays and Milwaukee Brewers faced off this weekend.
Smith, who played one season for the Saints in 2012, and is the starting centerfielder for the Rays, had 2 hits and a walk in 10 plate appearances over the weekend. Overall this season, Smith has a .284 batting average.
Broxton, who's lone season in Saints blue and white came in 2009 as a member of the FCSAA State Championship team and NJCAA Runners-up, went one for nine at the plate for the Brewers, stole his 19 base of the season, and scored the winning run in Saturday's game.
The Brewers shut the Rays out twice over the weekend, 2-0 on Friday and 3-0 on Saturday. The Rays took the last game of the series 2-1 on Sunday.
