July 20, 2017 - Area dancers age 12 and up who are at the intermediate level are invited to attend any of three free master classes in the dance studio at the Santa Fe College Fine Arts Hall on National Dance Day Saturday, July 29, 2017. The classes will be held from 10-11 a.m., 11 a.m.-noon, and 1-3 p.m., with free pizza for lunch from noon-1 p.m. No pre-registration is required. The SF Fine Arts Hall is located on the Northwest Campus, 3000 NW 83 Street, Gainesville, FL.
SF Adjunct Dance Professor Herman Ramos, who teaches modern and hip-hop dance, and SF Dance Department alumni Christina Karafa and Josh White will lead the master classes. The Santa Fe College Fine Arts Department is sponsoring the National Dance Day event.
"This event is open to the Gainesville community so we can build camaraderie," Ramos explained. Admission is free and dancers can simply show up to take the class of their choice.
National Dance Day is an annual celebration that encourages Americans of all ages to incorporate dance into their lives. Established in 2010 by Nigel Lythgoe, a co-founder of Dizzy Feet Foundation, the aim of National Dance Day is to educate the public about dance and its many benefits and to make dance accessible to and inclusive of everyone.
Ramos explained that one of the dances to be taught is the 2017 routine from Dizzy Feet Foundation that can be viewed on YouTube at: https://youtu.be/2j3fyLMQVTc.
