Student Conduct Office looking for Deputies
July 14, 2017
July 14, 2017 - The Santa Fe College Student Conduct Office is looking for a few SF faculty or staff who wish to get involved in the student conduct process by serving as deputy conduct officers. This provides a unique opportunity to engage students in the learning process by focusing on behaviors that may depart from community standards as defined in the Student Conduct Code.
Deputy conduct officers meet with students to discuss alleged misconduct, explain the students' rights and responsibilities as outlined in the Student Conduct Code, and adjudicate their cases when the student accepts responsibility for the alleged misconduct. Conduct meetings often include investigative interviews, charging students with misconduct when there is a preponderance of the evidence that the alleged misconduct did occur, explaining alleged academic misconduct and determining appropriate conduct sanctions. Documentation in the online conduct system is also required.
Prospective deputies will receive thorough training from the college's Chief Student Conduct Officer, including shadowing opportunities, before beginning individual conduct meetings with students.
Service as a deputy conduct officer is rewarding in several ways as it provides an excellent opportunity for meaningful interactions with students who may be in need of mentorship and guidance to help them succeed in their academic endeavors. For new professionals, it adds the toolbox of experiences that may be beneficial when looking at career advancement.
If you are interested in serving as a deputy conduct officer, please secure the support of your supervisor, and then call or email dan.rodkin@sfcollege.edu to begin the training process.
If you have any questions about the conduct process, please feel free to reach out to Dan and about this opportunity to serve the college.
