Lakeland, FL – The defending FCSAA Champion Santa Fe College Saints will meet a familiar postseason foe on Tuesday afternoon, May 9, 2017, when they play Chipola College at 4 p.m. at the FCSAA Tournament. The NJCAA #13/FCSAA #3 Saints and Indians played three times at last year's tournament with SF winning two, including the championship game 6-4. The two teams also met in the 2009 championship game. The SF Saints were victorious in that one as well.

"We look forward to a great challenge in Chipola today," said SF Coach Johnny Wiggs. "They are a very good and complete team."

This year, Chipola has the upper hand, having won all three of their games thus far. No matter the result, the Indians are guaranteed a spot in the championship game on Wednesday. The Saints must win to stay alive.

Ricky Miranda will be tasked with keeping the high powered Chipola offense in check. The NJCAA #2/FCSAA #1 Indians have scored 33 runs in their three games, including two 10 run mercy rules their last two games against Miami Dade and Palm Beach. Santa Fe College pitching has been equally as good with a 1.59 ERA in 28.1 innings pitched, 26 strikeouts, and just four walks.

Santa Fe College defeated Northwest Florida State College on Monday, 7-1 to reach this point, and will need three more wins to win the title.

Should SF win today, they would then have to beat the winner of the Palm Beach/Miami Dade game on Wednesday morning, and then defeat Chipola College later in the afternoon.
