Upward Bound Holds End of the Year Banquet

May 9, 2017

May 6, 2017, Santa Fe College Upward Bound held a special End of the Year Banquet to congratulate students for their hard work and dedication during the past year. The banquet specifically recognized the graduating seniors from Newberry High School and Bradford High School. Many of the graduating seniors will attend the Upward Bound Summer Bridge program, which allows students to earn up to six credits of college classes prior to beginning college in the fall. This is the first step in pursuing their dreams via higher education. We are very proud of these students for working hard and remaining focused.

Coordinator, Neil Polzin and Academic Coach, Annetta McCloud recognized the seniors by presenting each one with a certificate and professional portfolio. Also recognized at the event was Vickie Kayuk for her work as the Upward Bound Work Study Student, and Maria Kilbride for six years of dedicated service as Academic Aide.

Dr. Naima Brown, VP of Student Affairs, delivered an empowering speech in which she emphasized the importance of doing something every day to get closer to accomplishing your goals, as well as taking advantage of your resources.

Upward Bound serves first-generation and low-income high school students. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of post-secondary education. This is done by providing academic instruction, tutoring, counseling, mentoring, and cultural enrichment opportunities.
