Palm Beach Knocks off Saints in Extra Innings, 4-3

Gainesville, FL – Palm Beach State College came out on the winning end of an extra inning game on Sunday evening, defeating Santa Fe 4-3 in 11.

Both starting pitchers gave their teams exactly what they needed, allowing three runs each. Kyle Morton went 6.2 innings and Panthers starter Kyle Farjad pitched nine full innings. Relievers Troy Bacon (3.2 inn) and Vince Colletti were equally as impressive. Colletti threw two perfect innings to get the win.

FCSAA #3/NJCAA #13 Santa Fe College (38-12) had an early 2-0 lead after runs in the first and third, but PBSC answered with a pair in the bottom of the third to tie it up.

Santa Fe College Saints retook the lead in the fifth and the Panthers tied the score at three in the seventh. That's the way it would stand until the 11 inning.

In the eleventh the Panthers started off reaching on an error and scored the eventual run on a ground ball with one out and a runner at third.

Stephen Smith had a pair of hits, as did Alex Goebel who also drove in two.

The SF Saints will play an elimination game against Northwest Florida State College on Monday, May 8 at 10:00 a.m.
