Girgis Leads Saints Past NW Florida State at FCSAA Tournament, 7-2

Gainesville, FL – The Mid-Florida Conference Pitcher of the Year and First Team All-FCSAA member Robert Girgis lived up to his billing on Saturday afternoon, striking out nine over eight frames, allowing just three hits and one walk in a 7-2 Santa Fe College victory. The win moves SF on in the winners bracket of the FCSAA Tournament.
Northwest Florida struck first, scoring a run in the first on a hit and a walk. They sacrificed with their three hole hitter with no outs, eventually coming away with just one run.
The NJCAA #13/FCSAA #3 Saints (37-11) answered right back with three runs in the first on RBI by Wyatt Meisterhans and Stephen Smith, and a run in the second on a RBI by Kyle Phillips.
The FCSAA #8 Raiders scored a run in the sixth to cut the deficit in half, 4-2, but again SF answered, scoring three runs in the sixth to put some insurance on the board.
Robert Girgis was lifted after eight innings and Ricky Miranda came in and shut the door, allowing just one base runner.
Wyatt Meisterhans, Stephen Smith, Leo Rodriguez, and Mikey Navarrete had two hits each. Kyle Phillips and Smith knocked in two runs a piece.
The Santa Fe College Saints will now move on to face Palm Beach State College on Sunday, May 7 at 4:00 p.m. Win or lose, SF will play again on Monday. With a win Sunday they would play at 4:00 p.m. and a loss would make it an elimination game at 10:00 a.m.
