Eight Saints Earn Mid-Florida Conference Honors; Wiggs Coach of the Year

Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe College Saints were well represented on the All Mid-Florida Conference team after their second straight championship, placing eight players on the first and second team. In addition to that, Saints players won Fireman of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and Pitcher of the Year. Coach Johnny Wiggs was named the Coach of the Year for the seventh time.
Alex Goebel was honored as the Defensive Player of the Year, committing just one error splitting time between catcher and first base for a fielding percentage of .998. He also managed to throw out 54.5% of would-be base stealers.
Troy Bacon was named the Fireman of the Year for the second year in a row. He has eight saves, a 5-0 record, 1.49 ERA, and struck out 59 batters in 36.1 innings pitched.
Robert Girgis beat out some stiff competition from pitchers around the conference to claim the Pitcher of the Year award. Girgis was 8-2 with a 2.64 ERA in 13 starts, including a complete game shutout. The southpaw struck out 70 in 71.2 innings and batters hit just .218 against him.
