Gabel and Bacon Combine to Shut Down CF Patriots, Saints Win 6-2

Gainesville, FL – Santa Fe College pitcher, Sean Gabel, started the game on the mound and pitched 5.1 innings before turning it over to closer Troy Bacon for the final 3.2 innings in the SF Saints 6-2 win over the College of Central Florida Saturday afternoon in Ocala. Gabel improved his record to 7-1 and Bacon picked up his eighth save. The victory give SF a four-game season sweep over Central Florida
Alex Goebel provided the first bit of offense for the Saints, blasting a three-run homer to put SF (33-11, 16-5 MFC) on the board in the fifth. They plated two more in the top half of the sixth in an error and a Leo Rodriguez RBI single. The Patriots answered with two in the sixth, chasing Gabel from the game after two outs. Bacon got out of the jam and held CF scoreless the rest of the way.
In the seventh Stephen Smith singled and then stole second and third, coming home on a Danny DiMare fielder's choice.
DiMare finished up a big week at the plate 9-for-13 with two doubles and seven RBI. He is now 17-for-31 (.548 BA) in conference play.
Santa Fe College had 11 hits as a team, including two each for DiMare, Dillon Reed and Stephen Smith.
