Gainesville, FL – Sean Gabel struck out eight Lake Sumter batters in seven efficient innings Saturday afternoon in Gainesville, blanking the Lakehawks to lead Santa Fe College to a 9-0 victory. He needed just 76 pitches to earn his fifth win of the season.
Dillon Reed stayed hot offensively, going 3-for-4 with a RBI to pace the offense. Through the last five games he is now 12-for-21 with a homerun and five RBI.
The Santa Fe College Saints (29-9, 12-3 MFC) grabbed an early lead, scoring one in the first, two in the second, and three in the third, more than enough cushion for a sharp Sean Gabel.
Insurance runs in the fifth and sixth secured 29 SF victory of the season.
Santa Fe outhit the Lakehawks 14-3. Jeff Misener finished 2-for-3, giving him five hits in the last two games. Alex Goebel, Mikey Navarrete, and Brandon Hernandez had two hits each. Eight of nine SF starters had at least one hit.
The win keeps the Saints on top of the Mid-Florida Conference, just above St. John's River State (14-4 MFC).
St. John's will have the MFC bye next week while Santa Fe College plays a three-game set with Daytona. At the end of the week, all seven teams will have played 18 conference games. They will then play each other one more time to round out the 24-game schedule.
The first game in the three-game tilt between the Saints and Falcons will take place in Gainesville Monday, April 3, at 3 p.m. Fans can watch on the Saints Sport Network.
