March 24, 2017 SF BASEBALL
Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe College Saints struggled offensively Friday afternoon in Sanford against Seminole State College, managing just two runs on four singles and a double by Leo Rodriguez. The Raiders did just enough, getting the winning hit in the eighth inning off Saints closer Troy Bacon.
Kyle Morton was stellar on the mound for a majority of the game, going 7.1 innings, striking out 11. It wasn't until the eighth that SSC got to Morton, putting a pair of runners on base. Bacon came in to pitch with two on in the inning and SF induced a fielder's choice for the first out. The next batter lined to center and a diving try by Phillips was missed, leading to a two-run triple.
NJCAA #15/FCSAA #3 Santa Fe (24-9, 7-3 MFC) couldn't finish with two runners on in the ninth and fell 3-2.
It was an uncharacteristically rough day at the plate for SF batters. The top four hitters in the lineup went 0-15 and the Saints were 0-8 with runners in scoring position. They were walked five times but failed to take advantage.
Nick Lentz was the lone player with multiple hits, going 2-for-3.
The Saints and Raiders will match-up again Saturday, March 25, in Gainesville at 3 p.m. Fans can watch the game live on the Saints Sports Network.
