SF BASEBALL LEO RODRIGUEZ THREE-RUN HOMER LEADS SAINTS PAST PENSACOLA, 9-4

Gainesville, FL – Leo Rodriguez provided the big blow for the Santa Fe Saints Friday afternoon in a win against Pensacola State, drilling a three-run homerun in the bottom of the seventh to turn a three-run lead into an 8-2 advantage for SF. The victory is the eighth of the season for the defending FCSAA State Champions.

Santa Fe College (8-3) struck early against the Pirates, plating two runs in the first inning on two out RBI by Stephen Smith and Wyatt Meisterhans.

The Saints added three more runs in the fourth, again all coming with two outs, to expand their lead to 5-2.

Rodriguez's homerun pushed the lead to 8-2 in the seventh and an insurance run in the eighth on a sacrifice fly made it 9-2. PSC managed two runs in the ninth for a final score of 9-4.

Sean Gabel (2-0) started on the hill and went six strong innings, allowing just two runs on five hits, striking out eight. Four relievers pitched over the final three innings, including the final two outs by Troy Bacon for his fifth save.

Meisterhans, Smith, and Brandon Hernandez finished with two hits each. Leo Rodriguez had three RBI and Dillon Reed had two RBI.

The Saints will hit the road tomorrow in Avon Park to take on South Florida State College at noon in a double header.
