SF BASEBALL MORTON, BACON LEAD THE WAY IN 3-1 WIN OVER TALLAHASSEE
February 7, 2017
Gainesville, FL – Sophomore Kyle Morton turned in his third straight solid performance to start 2017, tossing six innings, allowing just one run on four hits. He held the Eagles hitless through the first four innings and didn't allow a run until the six.
"Our pitching was outstanding today," said SF Coach Johnny Wiggs. "Morton was good again as he has been through all three starts."
Neither team could get the offense going until the sixth when SF (6-3) broke the scoreless tie with two runs on a Dillon Reed RBI single and a perfectly executed squeeze play for the second run by Brandon Hernandez.
TCC (5-4) scored one in the bottom of the sixth to cut the Saints lead in half. Santa Fe College answered in the top of the seventh with a run on an error, giving the bullpen some breathing room.
Leo Rodriguez pitched two scoreless innings in the seventh and eighth and Troy Bacon wrapped up his fourth save with a scoreless ninth.
"Rodriguez and Bacon were super out of the pen," Wiggs said. "We didn't swing it very well but executed in the spots we needed to to give us a big road win over a very good team."
The Saints will stay on the road Wednesday against St. Petersburg College at 3 p.m. The next home game for SF is Friday against Pensacola State at 3 p.m.
