SF BASEBALL REED, LENTZ HOME IN SAINTS 10-8 WIN OVER INDIAN RIVER
January 30, 2017
Gainesville, FL – The NJCAA #8 Santa Fe Saints trailed by as many as five runs Sunday afternoon against Indian River but the long ball helped them rally for a win, their third in the last two days. Dillon Reed provided the big blast, hammering a two-run homer (1) in the bottom of the sixth to give the Saints a 9-8 lead, one they would not relinquish.
The Pioneers controlled the early part of the game, getting to SF starter Mitch Campion to the tune of six runs, four of them earned. Leo Rodriguez (1-0) was lights out from the bullpen, holding Indian River to no runs on three hits while striking out five.
Nick Lentz started the Saints rally in the fourth with a solo homerun (1) and his teammates finished the comeback in the fifth, plating five runs on two hits, including a two RBI single by Brandon Hernandez.
IRSC rebounded for two runs in the sixth, setting the table for Dillon Reed's heroics in the bottom half of the inning. Reed's blast gave the Saints the lead and an insurance run in the eighth was enough for SF to hold on.
Reed finished 2-for-2 with a homerun and four RBI, Mikey Navarrette continued to swing a hot bat, going 3-for-5 with two RBI, and Brandon Hernandez was 2-for-4 with two RBI out of the leadoff spot.
The Saints next game will be Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 3 p.m. at home against Hillsborough CC.
