SF MEN'S BASKETBALL BALANCED ATTACK LEADS SAINTS PAST FSC-J, 79-66

January 13, 2017

Playing in just their second game since mid-December, the Santa Fe Saints didn't look like they acquired any rust, defeating Florida State College-Jacksonville 79-66 in Gainesville.

Five players scored in double figures, led by 16 from David-Lee Jones.

FSC-J (8-9, 1-1 MFC) started the game off on the right foot, building a four-point lead seven minutes into the first half. A 8-2 run, paced by five points from Darrell Jones put SF (13-5, 1-0 MFC) up for good later in the half. The Saints lead stayed steady through the remainder of the first period and they took a 35-28 lead at the break.

In the second half, the Santa Fe lead ballooned to double digits and David-Lee Jones and the rest of the Saints sealed the game with tough defense and some timely baskets.

The SF defense held Bluewave leading scorer Travis McConico to 10 points, 10 points below his season average. This was four days after he went for 37 points against the College of Central Florida in a FSC-J win.

The Saints outrebounded the Bluewave 37-28 and held FSC-J to just 36.2 percent shooting from the field.

Joining David-Lee Jones in double digits for Santa Fe were Sean Dinkins 13, Darrell Jones 11, Joshua Hawkins 10 and Lazar Djurovic 10.

Next up for the Saints is a road MFC game against Daytona State College Saturday, Jan. 14 at 4 p.m.
