Santa Fe College Saints Defeat Gordon State Highlanders
December 15, 2016
The Santa Fe Saints made up a seven point halftime deficit Wednesday night in Gainesville against Gordon State College, defeating the Highlanders 77-76 for their fourth straight win, and ninth in their last 10. SF improves to 11-4 on the season and Gordon falls to 8-3.
"This was a really good win for our team," said SF Coach Chris Mowry. "Gordon is a very talented team. I'm proud of the way we battled and fought back."
The Saints trailed by seven at the half, but rallied midway through the second half with a 14-2 run to jump ahead 56-51. Santa Fe lead by as many as nine but the Highlanders chipped away, getting it to five with 30 seconds to go. Derek St. Hilaire nailed a three pointer and drew a foul, completing an improbable four point play to make it a one point contest.
Josh Hawkins calmly stepped up to the line and made both free throws to push it back to a three point lead. Gordon couldn't get more than a put back layup after a missed three and Santa Fe ran out the final second to secure the win.
Josh Hawkins led all scorers with 23 points, continuing his offensive tear. David-Lee Jones had 19 points and D-Juan Taylor Hodge 15.
The Saints will be on the road Friday at Indian River State College to face the Pioneers at 4 p.m.
