Santa Fe College Saints Continue a Winning Weekend

December 12, 2016

Gainesville, FL – A day after scoring 103 points in a win over Miami Dade, the Santa Fe Saints showed they could win a different kind of game, defeating ASA Miami 55-46 on the second day of the Florida Colleges Shootout in Gainesville.

"To hold a team to 23 percent shooting shows that we stayed within ourselves defensively and made them work for every shot," said SF Coach Chris Mowry. "We have to figure out ways to win games when our offense isn't firing on all cylinders. I'm proud of how our guys stayed with it and got the win."

The victory is the third in a row and eighth in nine games for Santa Fe who improves to 10-4 on the season.

The Saints didn't score until nearly four minutes into the game, but their defense was up to the task as well, surrendering just 18 points over the first 20 minutes. SF led 28-18 at halftime, giving them all the cushion they would need.

Santa Fe built as much as a 22 point lead in the second half before closing out the nine point win.

Josh Hawkins led SF with 15 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals. Nick Grier had 11 points and six rebounds, and Darrell Jones scored 10 points to go with seven rebounds.

The Saints will be back at home Wednesday, Dec. 14 against Gordon State College (GA) at 4 p.m.
