New Workshop Promotes Accessible Design
November 7, 2016
The Center for Teaching, Technology and Training (CT3) is offering a new workshop to promote accessible online course design on November 10, 2016 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in room P-138. This workshop is a product of collaborative work involving many SF College units including: the Disabilities Resource Center, SF Library, Information Technology Services and Creative & Communication Services.
"We are fortunate to have a team of committed faculty and staff dedicated to promoting accessibility in all venues," said DRC Coordinator Claudia Connelly.
Accessible design is a design process in which the needs of people with disabilities are specifically considered. When course sites are designed with accessibility in mind, all learners benefit from improved formatting and organization of materials. In this workshop, participants will learn how to apply principles of accessible design to their Canvas course sites. Prior experience with creating a course site (or prior basic training in Canvas) is recommended. The workshop will be facilitated by Andy Sheppard and Gloria Kersh from the CT3.
"One of the surprising discoveries I have made working with this group is that when accessible design principles are applied, all learners benefit. Course websites become better organized and easier to navigate," said Instructional Designer, Andy Sheppard.
