Four More Santa Fe Basketball Players Sign With Upper Division Schools

August 9, 2016

Over the course of the summer, four more men's basketball players have joined Kevin O'Brien in signing with upper division schools, with one more likely to sign very soon.

Ty Birts finished his sophomore season averaging nine points per game, nearly doubling his output from his freshman season. He signed with Lindenwood University, a NCAA Division II school in Missouri earlier in the summer, joining a Lions team that went 16-14 during the 2015-16 season under Head Coach Lance Randall.

Alex Brown recently inked his NCAA scholarship, signing with Arkansas Tech, a NCAA Division II school. Brown played just one year for Coach Chris Mowry and the Saints, but made his presence felt, averaging 12.2 points per game, shooting 37.1% from behind the three point line. Brown joins a Wonder Boys team that finished 15-14 last season under head Coach Chad Kline.

Leo Edwards signed with Kent State University after a solid season in the post for the Saints. Edwards was a transfer from Louisiana Tech and finished his sophomore season averaging 12.2 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. Kent State is a NCAA Division I school that competes in the Mid-American Conference. They were 19-13 overall in 2015-16, and 10-8 in MAC play.

Nick Rosa, also with the Saints for just one season, signed with Ave Maria University, a NAIA institution in Ave Maria, FL. The Gyrenes were 5-23 in 2015-16 under Coach John Lamanna, and hope Rosa will give them the inside-out presence he provided at Santa Fe. Rosa can knock down outside shots, and also play in the post.
