Announcing New SF Equity Officer/Associate General Counsel

July 28, 2016

Santa Fe College is excited to announce the addition of our new Equity Officer/Associate General Counsel, Jasmine Gibbs. In the role of Equity Officer, she will serve Santa Fe College as Equal Access/Equal Opportunity Coordinator, Title IX Coordinator, and ADA/504 Coordinator for Employment. She will work closely with Human Resources Director Lela Frye to transition these duties over the next few months. As Associate General Counsel, she will serve as a legal advisor and attorney on project assignments that reflect the wide-ranging legal needs of the college.

For her undergraduate work, Jasmine went to the University of Miami where she received degrees in history and education. She taught high school social studies in Miami-Dade County for four years before attending law school at Emory University. It was there that she became interested in Civil Rights issues and interned with agencies like the U.S. Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights (OCR), and the Equal Employment Opportunities Commission (EEOC). After these experiences, she knew she wanted to work to make sure everyone has equal access to education in the U.S.

After law school, she was an Administrative Fellow at Harvard University in the Title IX Office and continued there as the Title IX Program Officer where she focused on issues of sexual and gender-based harassment.

Jasmine was attracted to Santa Fe College because of its commitment to the student experience and the enthusiasm of the staff for the College's mission and values. She looks forward to serving the college and getting to know the Santa Fe community.

Jasmine is a Florida native and in her spare time enjoys exploring Florida's Springs and helping her family upkeep their collection of tropical fruit trees.
