Hinman Awards Nearly $450,000 in Scholarships and Gifts to Dental Education Programs
June 30, 2016
Earlier this year, the Hinman Dental Society awarded nearly $450,000 in scholarships and gifts to dental education schools and programs. Included in these gifts were 89 scholarships, dispersed to students at 39 different dental programs throughout the Southeast. The students selected for scholarships were named "Hinman Scholars" and were recognized during a luncheon at the Hinman Dental Meeting, held in March.
"Hinman is proud to support student programs in the Southeast for the past 29 years. In the last 16 years alone, the Hinman Dental Society has contributed nearly $8 million in scholarships and large gifts in support of dental education," said Dr. Jim Roos, general chairman of the 2016 Hinman Dental Meeting. "In addition to providing scholarships and endowments, Hinman invites students to attend the meeting to learn the latest in the profession, network with established dentists and prepare for a successful career in dentistry."
The Hinman Dental Society has granted scholarships to dental students since 1986, adding dental hygiene students in 1989, laboratory technician students in 2003 and dental assisting students in 2005. Recipients are selected by the dean of each school's dentistry, dental hygiene, laboratory technician and dental assisting departments and must be junior student members of the American Dental Association, as well as in the top 10 percent of their class. As part of their award, Hinman Scholars are invited to attend the Hinman Dental Meeting in Atlanta.
Now in its 104th year, the Hinman Dental Meeting attracts more than 21,000 dental professionals annually to participate in lectures, courses, and special programs designed for dentists, hygienists, assistants, laboratory technicians and office staff. Hinman's 90,000 square-foot exhibit hall features nearly 400 leading dental industry companies, sharing the latest products and services in the dental field.
