Santa Fe College Brain Bowl Team Places 11 At The State Championships
April 19, 2016
In its first season back after years of hiatus, the Santa Fe Brain Bowl team consisting of Kyla Dalton, Zak Katzer, Andrew Moss and Macy Stephens competed in the Florida State Championships. Pasco-Hernando State College hosted the academic quiz tournament on its Spring Hill campus April 14 to April 16. Colleges compete against each other in 20 four question rounds, on topics such as the humanities, literature, science, and mathematics. The team qualified for the State Championships when they became the runners-up at the regional championships hosted at Santa Fe College on February 12, 2016.
The State tournament was won by the State College of Florida, which went undefeated. The Santa Fe College team led by Asha Brunings won 2 matches and lost 9, placing 11th in the state. Team captain Andrew Moss had the 4th highest individual score in the tournament, and the Santa Fe coach received the Roger Raepple Brain Bowl coach of the year award.
