SANTA FE SAINTS FASTPITCH LOSES TWO TO FSC-J IN GAINESVILLE, 2-1 AND 6-2
April 6, 2016
The Santa Fe Saints state tournament hopes took a small hit on Tuesday afternoon in Gainesville after they dropped a pair of games to Florida State College-Jacksonville, 2-1 and 6-2. The two teams split the four game season series. The Saints won in Jacksonville on March 20 by scores of 9-2 and 7-2. The losses put SF (20-26, 7-13 MFC) a game behind FSC-J for the final playoff spot with four games left to play for the Saints and six games left for the Blue Wave (30-13, 7-11 MFC).
FSC-J pitcher Shaina Reed was a force in the circle in game one, holding the Saints to one run on three hits. SF's Autumn Green was equally as effective, and allowed just two runs, both unearned following an error. She struck out 10 and scattered five hits to take the tough luck loss.
Sydnee Smith had two hits for Santa Fe in game one.
In game two the Blue Wave scored two in the second inning on a homerun, plated another in the third and added three insurance runs in the seventh. The Saints never quit, scoring two in the seventh, but couldn't complete the comeback.
Santa Fe will head out on the road for a non-conference double header in Bradenton against State College of Florida on Saturday, April 9 at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
