Saints of Santa Fe College - Ruby Puckett
April 1, 2016
April 1, 2016 - Former SF instructor Ruby Puckett moved to Gainesville in 1968 when Santa Fe College was just two years old with fewer than 500 students. It was then that Ruby developed a love and respect for Santa Fe College that continues today. Ruby began teaching nutrition courses to SF nursing students in the 1970's and headed the dietetic technician program at that time. Not only did Ruby teach at SF, she took a non-credit course in computer science, participated in campus outreach programs, supported the Displaced Homemakers Program and had two daughters and two granddaughters that attended SF.
"Santa Fe offered my daughters and granddaughters a great college experience, in smaller surroundings before attending larger universities," Ruby said. "Their experience was positive and continued them on the road to lifelong learning, as they both pursued advanced degrees."
Ruby's connection to SF continued when she was selected as a Santa Fe College Woman of Distinction (WOD). The WOD community program honors women who have contributed their time, skills, talents and financial support to many community programs. These women are role models and mentors to a younger generation.
"What an honor to be chosen by one's peers," Ruby said. "It is rewarding to attend the annual meeting and share the excitement with the newly selected members, to have an opportunity to interact with many of the women and to work on committees to promote WOD and SF."
Throughout her residence in Gainesville, Ruby has maintained a connection to, and a love for, Santa Fe College that she continues to relay to the next generation.
"I have a great appreciation for the vision, mission, and values SF offers the community," Ruby added. "Our family has continued to benefit from its ongoing programs."
