Saints Defeat Hillsborough, clinch a spot at FCSAA Tournament

February 11, 2016

The Santa Fe Saints handled Hillsborough CC on Wednesday evening in Gainesville, outscoring the Hawks 19-5 in the first quarter and never looking back in a 66-53 win.

SF (14-11, 6-3 MFC) trailed 4-0 in the opening minutes but held the Hawks to one point over the final 8:17 of the first quarter to jump to the 14 point lead. From there it was fairly even with HCC outscoring the Saints by one point the rest of the way, but the Saints held them in check and were content to trade baskets as they wrapped up their sixth conference win and a spot in the FCSAA Tournament.

The Saints have three games remaining in MFC play, and can clinch the #2 seed with a win on Saturday at Florida State College – Jacksonville. A loss and Santa Fe will have to fight it out over the final two games to determine if they are the #2 or #3 seed.

The final home game for Santa Fe will be on Wednesday, Feb. 17, at 6 p.m. against Daytona State College. The athletics department will be honoring all retiring faculty and staff from the 2016 year during "Faculty/Staff Appreciation Night". College President Jackson Sasser will be on hand to help honor these individuals.
