SF's Andrews Center celebrate 30 years Nov. 17
November 13, 2015
Santa Fe College is celebrating 30 years at the Andrews Center in downtown Starke on Tuesday, Nov. 17, from 5-7 p.m. The celebration will offer tours of the historic building, featuring recent renovations and artwork. Attendees will enjoy Hors d'oeuvres by a new local favorite, Call Street Café, and musical entertainment provided by the SF Singers who recently performed with Master Artist Malcolm Gets.
"The Andrews Center will always hold a mark of distinction because it was our first center after Santa Fe College opened the Northwest campus," said Dr. Jackson Sasser, President of Santa Fe College. "The generous patrons and supporters in Bradford County made possible the center, which in turn is a leading reason why our college was named number one in the country."
The SF Andrews Center includes the former Bradford County Courthouse, renovated in 1985, neighboring the restored Cultural Building (1991) and the added Lillian Stump Center (2001) that make up the uniquely segmented "campus" and central part of Starke's downtown redevelopment and restoration. The Cultural Building is home to the Eugene L. Matthews Historical Museum and a performance venue that facilitate educational and cultural opportunities for Bradford and surrounding counties.
"Santa Fe College had a presence in Bradford County as early as September 1966, when the first class was offered at the USO Building on 301," said Cheryl Canova, Andrews Center Director. "With the vision and support of Guy Andrews and others in our community, they took a beautiful, abandoned building that was about to be auctioned off and turned it into an opportunity for our citizens and generations to come. It is hard to believe we are celebrating our 30th year, and we hope the community will join us in this celebration."
The Andrews Center is located at 209 W. Call Street, Starke, FL, 32091. SF faculty, staff and students, along with the Alachua-Bradford and surrounding communities, are all invited to join together and share in this special anniversary celebration.
