Grade-schoolers take over the Andrews Center at Jr. College For Kids

June 30, 2015

The Andrews Center experienced a lot of excitement, noise and laughter last week, from young students who were having a great time at the fifth annual Jr. CFK program and our first Exploring Science program.

Both programs were for rising first through fourth graders, ages 6-10. The Jr. CFK program is held from 8 a.m. until noon, Monday through Friday, for one week. Forty-six children enjoyed a week full of fun, hands-on learning activities, which included Shutterbug, 3-D Sculpture, Painting with Expression, Drawing 101, Let's Map It Out, The History of Bradford County, Fun with Food, Let's Get Crafty, Mask Making, Camp Throw Down, CSI: Starke, Exploring Foods from Local Growers and CFK Talent Showdown.

This year, Exploring Science was successfully added as an afternoon program. Twenty-six students, from the Jr. CFK program, stayed all day to learn about science and perform experiments. The students enjoyed four experiments each day for a total of 20 for the week!

The success of our programs would not be possible without the support of community members, civic and church groups that donate funds to provide scholarships for these children. Many of these organizations and individuals have been helping since we started the CFK program in the summer of 2003. Thirty-three of the students attending the Jr. CFK and Science program had some assistance from scholarship donations to attend.

The Andrews Center is excited to offer these programs for younger students, knowing that they are introducing children to the college setting and planting seeds for their future!
