SF Teaching Zoo named best in the state

June 9, 2015

Santa Fe College received worldwide acclaim on the Web, being featured as one of the best zoos in the state of Florida on Yahoo Travel. State-by-state, America's top zoos were featured, with SF sharing the honor in Florida with Disney's Animal Kingdom.

The SF Teaching Zoo is a unique 10-acre home to over 75 different species that are cared for by eight full-time staff members and over 200 students enrolled in the Zoo Animal Technology Program, nestled beside the Northwest Campus. The program is one of only two in the entire nation. Guests can stroll through a naturally shaded, quarter mile sawdust trail.

There are also lots of entertaining and interactive opportunities as part of the Conservation Educational Programs, including: Animal Encounters, School Field Trips, Community Outreach Program, and Scavenger Hunts. Guests can even book a birthday party event. The Zoo is open to the public seven days a week from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Admission costs between $4 and $5 and local college students and staff and children under three are free.

These are just a few reasons why SF Teaching Zoo is the best in Florida. Come check it out for yourself and meet our Bald Eagles, White-throated Capuchin monkeys, Galapagos tortoises, Matschie's Tree Kangaroo and Asian small-clawed otters to name a few of our friends.

Jonathan Miot is Director and Associate Professor at the Teaching Zoo, and shares this exciting recognition with the staff and students.

"We wouldn't be here without a leadership team who believes in us and supports us," said Miot.
