Saints rally late for 2-1 victory over FSC-J
April 23, 2015
The Saints (29-9, 16-5 MFC) and Blue Wave took part in a pitching duel on Wednesday afternoon in Jacksonville, with Santa Fe needing a late two run rally to take a road victory from Florida State College-Jacksonville. The win moves SF within one game of first place St. John's River State College in the race for the Mid-Florida Conference crown.
Trent Johnson (9-1) started on the mound for the Saints and allowed three hits and one unearned run in six innings of work to earn his ninth win of the season, good for second most in the country.
FSC-J opened the scoring in the fifth inning with a run, but Matt Allen kept it at one run when he picked off a runner at third base.
The Saints finally got things going in the seventh when Tyler Kinney doubled, and two batters later Robbie Hanlon doubled to drive Kinney in to tie the score. With the infield drawn in Nick Horvath chopped one off the glove of the short stop, who was still able to make the play at first, but the run scored to give SF the 2-1 lead.
Bryan Neal got the first two outs of the seventh inning, and Call Graham shut the door on the Blue Wave, getting the final seven batters in order to pick up his seventh save of the season.
Hanlon finished the game 2-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored out of the nine hole, and Nick Horvath was 1-for-4 with a RBI.
The Saints will travel to Sanford on Friday for a game with Seminole State College at 3:00 PM, and return home on Saturday to host the College of Central Florida at 1:00 PM, and on Sunday host St. John's River State College at 1:00 PM.
