Earth Day Luncheon in honor of Marjorie Carr Wednesday, April 22nd
11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. Kanapaha Botanical Gardens
Keynote speaker: Peggy McDonald, author of "Marjorie Harris Carr: Defender of Florida's environment"
Marjorie Carr was a member of many local environmental groups and a founder of FDE.
She helped to get Payne's Prairie set aside as a state park and was a fierce advocate
for the Ocklawaha River. For 35 years, she led a coalition of citizen activists in
the campaign to protect and restore the river that was successful in having the Army
Corps of Engineers Cross Barge Canal project cancelled.
