SF Student Life rolls out cutting-edge technology to help students have a safe spring break
February 24, 2015
Santa Fe College Student Life, in partnership with the SF Counseling Center and Santa Fe College Police Department, is hosting a number of "Safe Spring Break" events this week in preparation for the college's spring break next week. The goal is to to educate students on reducing opportunities for victimization, driving safety and using good judgment, and give them tools to help them remain safe while vacationing or hanging out with friends over the break.
Of note, Samantha Freda who works in Student Life researched "Date Rape Detector" cards which will be handed out at each of the events. By placing a drop of your beverage on the card, it can determine if an alcoholic drink may have a foreign drug in it. It is an excellent crime prevention tool.
"We want our students to come back after spring break safe and ready to finish the semester," said Santa Fe College Police Chief Ed Book.
Below is the schedule of events for the remainder of the week. Tomorrow's event in the Oak Grove on the Northwest Campus is the largest event. The alternate rain location for that event is S-29/30.
Feb. 24-Davis Center from 9-11 a.m.
Blount Center from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
Feb. 25-Northwest Campus from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
