Santa Fe College rolls out new online feature to support veterans

February 18, 2015

Santa Fe College is proud to salute veterans through new services available in Career Coach. Career Coach is a free online tool that supports students and community members in finding a suitable career by providing the most up-to-date local data on wages, employment, job postings, and related education and training offered at SF.

Veterans and former military personnel make up a valuable demographic in the local labor market, but often face challenges in figuring out how their military skills transfer to the civilian workforce. That's where SF's Career Coach comes in. SF added a feature to Career Coach that maps military occupation codes (MOC) and links them to relatable civilian career paths.

Information like salary, local job outlook data, and real-time postings help guide veterans toward envisioning a career in a matter of minutes. Career Coach also links to relevant and local degree or certificate programs at SF that are oriented to their goals.

For those veterans and former military personnel who felt unfulfilled in their military occupations, or are eager to explore further options, Career Coach acts as a catalyst for dialogue with advisers about preferences and dislikes of previous positions, transferable skills for a new path, and the education essential to that advancement.

This service supports the SF Veterans Affairs mission of ensuring every veteran and eligible dependent receives the utmost respect and service.
