Saints defeat Hillsborough 72-45 to earn first MFC win

January 20, 2015

Facing a must win situation early on in the Mid-Florida Conference portion of their schedule, the Santa Fe Saints put together their most complete performance of 2015 to defeat Hillsborough CC 72-45.

Twelve players scored at least one point for SF in the balanced win, led by 18 from sophomore guard Kayla Lovett.

The Saints (10-9, 1-3 MFC) and Hawks (9-11, 0-3 MFC) were back and forth for a majority of the first half, but a late run by Santa Fe put them up 36-26 heading into the locker rooms.

SF repeated their effort of 36 points in the second half, pulling away from a depleted Hawks team that dressed only six players. The Santa Fe defense held Hillsborough to just 19 second half points on 17% shooting.

Sonya Franklin, Deja McPhee, and Tatiana Manuel had eight points each for SF.

The Saints will return to the court next Saturday, Jan. 24 at home against Florida State College-Jacksonville at 2 p.m. The men will follow against Daytona State College at 4 p.m.
