Brandon Williams' buzzer beater leads Saints past TAAG, 75-73
November 12, 2014
With the score tied at 73-73, the Saints held the ball for one final shot, but it was the fourth attempt that went in, after a missed jumper and two missed tip-ins, Brando Williams gave Santa Fe their fourth victory of the season with a put back as time expired for the 75-73 victory.
"I'm happy for our guys that we were able to stay with that one and get a win," said SF Coach Chris Mowry. "We have to give a lot of credit to TAAG for their effort tonight, but we have to play better than we did."
Santa Fe (4-1) won despite shooting just 41 percent from the field, 21 percent from the three point line, and made just 18-of-36 free throw attempts.
"We are very fortunate to win tonight," said Mowry. "We have a long, long way to go. We had 17 turnovers, only made half our free throws and three three's. Just did a poor job trying to execute on offense. We need to slow down and not rush as much."
Jaquel Taft had a solid offensive game, finishing with 17 points, including three highlight reel dunks, two of them of the alley oop variety. Morris Marshall scored 12, well below his season average, but contributed seven assists and two steals. Williams had nine points, including the game winner, and pulled down six rebounds.
The Saints will play again at home on Friday, Nov. 14 against Palm Beach State College at 7 p.m..
